A Columbia (SC) Aviator and
His Stinson Detroiter Remembered

Prelude:
The authors and a few others met on August 25th, 2008, the 81st
anniversary of Redfern’s ill-fated flight, to drink a toast to this pioneer
aviator and to keep his memory alive. Below is a report of the event.

On
August 25th, 1927 at 12:46 pm, Paul Rinaldo Redfern of Columbia, SC
took off from Brunswick, GA for a non-stop flight to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He never arrived.
On
August 25th, 2008 at 12:46 pm, a group of members of The
Paul Rinaldo Redfern Aviation Society and guests
raised their glasses in a toast to Mr. Redfern. Toasters are from left: Ron
Shelton, Tom Savage, Debra Bloom, Xen Motsinger, Billy Rawl and Warner
Montgomery, host for the meeting and publisher of The Columbia Star. Rachel
Haynie, a reporter for The Star,
is not shown (she took the picture). The meeting took
place in the Capital
City Club in downtown Columbia.
