The Opera Guild of Greater Columbia, SC was launched on March 27, 1978 by Dr. James and Marge Adams for the purpose of stimulating love and support for opera in the community. Dr. Adams is now deceased and Marge, having served several terms as president, is enjoying a well-deserved retirement. They are both remembered fondly in the organization.
We meet four times a year between September and May, and boast a membership roll of about one hundred members. Our meetings consist of a social hour, a short business meeting, and an entertainment program by various local grad students, undergraduates and other artists. The socializing recommences after the performance, and a good time is had by all!

MET OPERA AUDITIONS (NEW Nov. 17, 2009)

Our community just had our annual Met Opera National Council auditions, and out of the 18 marvelous singers the judges (with great difficulty) chose three to compete at a higher level. While your host did not get any pictures of the event itself, he did get some pictures of the gala pre-audition party, which he is happy to share with you here.

This party, a fund-raiser to cover the considerable expenses of presenting these singers, was a great success,

as you will see if you’ll

This web site will be used primarily for meeting notices and announcements of opera-related events in our community and surrounding area. From time to time, your host will post pictures shot by him and others at guild meetings and other local functions.

Suggestions for additions? E-Mail the proprietor via the button at the bottom of the page.

(If your host may be allowed a personal privilege, the “Opera for Kids” link is a particularly worthy
endeavor, since it exposes this art form to very young people, who will certainly not see this kind of
entertainment elsewhere. We are long past the point where we could be considered “kids,” but we
have seen several of these productions, and they were all wonderful and memorable experiences!)
